Life Lessons - Embracing Mistakes

Don't fear failure.
Pinterest

Are you a perfectionist?  Do you stress over the smallest details, and tend to freak if something is not done just right?

I am, without a doubt, right there with you.  Actually, I like to think of myself as a recovering perfectionist.  I have finally admitted and recognized that I have a problem, so now I am working on it.

The problem with striving for perfection is that it is a goal you can never achieve.  No matter how good you do, there is always going to be some aspect that you could have done better.  You end up spending all of your time and energy working on that level of perfection, that you lose sight of everything else.

For some it goes even a step further - I know I can't do it perfectly, so why even bother!  They subconsciously know that a perfect success is not possible, so they avoid the situation all together to not have to deal with that sense of failure.  Your quest for perfection actually begins to stop you from even attempting new challenges or goals.

This is the level I was at, and to tell the truth still struggle with a bit.  The good news is that there is hope.  Through hard work and self-realization, I have begun to accept my imperfections and to allow myself room to make mistakes.  The fears are still there.  I'm just able to name them better, thus push through them easier.

If you find yourself obsessing over getting that craft just right, or putting off starting that new project at work; take the time to reflect on what you are really worrying about.  You may be surprised to find your desire for perfection holding you back.  If so, then take a deep breath and remember:

Happy Friday!  Welcome to another round of Friday's Letters!

Dear Hubs - I miss you and can't wait until the little bear and I are home on Sunday.

Dear Mom (aka Grandma to Little Bear) - Thanks for letting us come and stay... I could sit and listen to you and the little bear talk all day!

Dear Rita (our dog) - I can't beleive how much help you are at home cleaning the food that little bear drops on the floor.  I think Grandma needs a dog in her house too!

Dear Everyone - I hope you all have a great weekend!

November Charity of the Month - Feeding America

$1 - 8 meals
Feeding America: Ways to Give

In honor of Thanksgiving, as we share a meal with loved ones and reflect on all that we have to be thankful for; let us remember that not all of our fellow Americans will have a meal to share.

1 in 6 Americans Face HungerFeeding America is the nation's leading domestic hunger-relief charity.  Their food bank network supplies food to more than 37 million Americans.  They can only do this with our help and support!

Feed a Child Breakfast for 3 months
Please take a moment to check out Feeding America.  Their Ways to Give page has donation options for all levels.  For a small gift of only $12, you can feed a child breakfast for three months.  $12 would be as simple as making your own coffee for a week and skipping that fancy coffee house one.

During the month of November, I will donate $1 to Feeding America for the first 25 new followers to my blog AND the first 25 new likes on my Facebook page.

Feeding America's mission is simply to feed America's hungry, let's see if we can join together to help them out this month!

Freebies - Meditation Journals

Download Log HERE

As I try to expand my daily meditation practice, I have found that having a place to record my thoughts and times very helpful. It is nice to have a log to review at the end of the week, so that I can make adjustments or continue with new found insights.

In an effort to share my new found knowledge and hopefully help out my fellow blogger;  I have put together two versions you may find helpful.

Life Lessons: Change of Perspective

Perspective is defined as the capacity to view things in their true relations or relative importance.

The other day, I had a most amazing conversation with my husband:

Me: I like doing my yoga in the bedroom. I can shut the door and the dog doesn’t lick my face every time I’m in down dog; but I hate having to go downstairs and lugging the laptop up and down each time.

Hubs: That’s a pain, but you could just think of it as an extension of your work out.

Me: Huh… Awesomeness! Thanks!

He smiled and gave me his “whatever babe” look.  Then went back to his day.

By finding a new perspective, I found new joy in my yoga practice. By being able to accept that going downstairs is just part of the deal (and not really that big of an issue), I have been able to let go of the negative.

If you find yourself struggling with an issue that just seems too much, remember to try looking at it from a new angle. Better yet, reach out and ask a loved one what they think. Sometimes the most amazing perspectives are found in the most surprising spots.
