Finding Purpose

I'm still searching, on my quest.  I know that a lot of my unfulfilled feelings stem from a lack of daily human interaction.  I work from home Monday through Friday.  It's a normal 9 to 5 job, which means I need to cover core hours that are not very flexible.  My job is mostly computer work, with 95% of my co-worker interaction happening over email; hence the lack of human interaction.

Add in the fact that my job is really kind of boring at this point.  I've been in this industry now for 12 plus years.  I have a sinking feeling that I may be bumping into my ceiling.  I'm just not sure there is more for me to learn.  I suppose there is plenty for me to learn, I'm just not sure that is the direction I want to go in.

Oh, yeah that's me... just a big ball of confusion!

Any who, the point I was going to make with this post is that one of the changes I would like to make in my life is to find a way to give back more.  I typically donate money to charities, but I think it is time for step out of the comfort of my home and do more hands on helping.  Not sure what that will end up being, but they say if you want to make a change happen the first thing to do is to make your hope public.

As a first step in this process, I have added a "Lend A Helping Hand" Tab on this site.  It is just a simple list of websites that I have stumbled upon.  I am not endorsing any of these sites, but they are all ones that I have ( or plan on ) donating to.  I am hoping that having a condensed list will inspire and simplify the "where to give search"..... not to mention help to keep my first point of change fresh in my mind.

Owl Cookies are a HOOT!

My son and I had a mini Holiday yesterday.  His day care was closed for teacher training, so I got to stay home with him.  What a blast.  He really is so much fun at this age, cracking me up with his stories and all the wonderful songs he sings to me.  He just turned three last month, so there are of course those moments when he shows his true three year old self… but most of the time he really is my pride and joy!

While leafing through my October 2012 Parent’s magazine last week, my son noticed these adorable Owl cookies.  He decided that we had to make them!  Since it was about 10 minutes before his bedtime that particular day, I managed to talk him into waiting until our day off.  As soon as he finished breakfast yesterday, he was ready to bake.  I could not help but join in with his enthusiasm.

Cowardly Lion….

Yep that’s me… I’m a coward.  I over analyze and over plan.  There’s no jumping into anything unless I have a very good map and a very well thought out plan.  Heck it took me a month to finally post on this blog… it took me two weeks just to finally pick a name.  If the whole idea is not perfect in my brain, then I can’t move forward.  If there are too many “what if” questions that I can’t answer, then I just stay stuck.

On top of being a coward, I’m a people pleaser.  I’ll gladly give up what I want just to make sure the people I love, respect, or feel some sort of obligation (even if misplaced) to are happy.  It is hard for me to ask for what I may need, since that seems like it will almost always be taking away from what someone else may need.  It’s a complicated cycle that does not always lead to my happiness.  I suppose it does lead to a level of happiness, seeing the people you care for happy….. But it leads to that hallow happiness…. The one where you still feel like something is missing.

Finding Hope

Hello All… today is my first post on this new blog.  Please allow me some wiggle room, as it is still a work in progress.  To tell the truth, I’m still a work in progress; which at this point in my life kind of surprises me.  I suppose I always assumed that the closer I got to 40, the better I would know what I want in life.

Isn’t my life supposed to be pretty much mapped out by now and just plugging along?  It always seemed when I was younger that the Moms I knew were living their lives happily and content…. Ahhh to be that naïve again!  Now I know that happiness and contentment has nothing to do with age or goals met… there’s something deeper, something more that you need to find first.

Therein lays my problem… I have no idea what that something else is.  Seriously, isn’t there a nice and easy little piece of wisdom someone can give me?  Please tell me if you know it, please?

So today I am beginning a new adventure, one in which I hope to find that “something missing” in my life.  Sometimes I think I hear a little bird in this tree of my life that sings a quiet song telling me that I already know what I need to know…. I just need to put all the pieces together…..  Good thing that I have always enjoyed a challenging puzzle!
